A fic meme I stole from
fengirl88
Total number of completed stories: 29 (two still unposted, but with a nice finishing seal on it, and one is the Secret Santa fic)
Total word count: 29,468, plus 50,339 of NaNo (I might get around to fixing it and eventually posting it, maybe in February - but it's to be considered the longest, most pretentious piece of... fanfiction I've ever written). Not going to count WIPs or I might get a headache.
Fandom breakdown: Sherlock (BBC), a teeny tiny bit of Merlin.
Overall Thoughts: I cannot believe I wrote in a month twice what I've written from September to December...
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: A lot more. I was on a hiatus on writing fic. I had been scribbling some RPS with my best friend, but hadn't written anything since... hm... 2007?
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?: All of it, since my Merlin story is Gwaine/Merlin and the rest is Sherlock. They did not EXIST in January. Mostly, I wrote John/Lestrade which I think is odd, because I don't really ship them. Or Mycroft/Lestrade. I still have a post-it that testifies to my first response to the pairing (it isn't flattering), but they converted me!
What's your own favourite story of the year?: I think it's Mycroft Cares. Even if I think I should have delved more deeply in his character study.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?: Moriarty. Or writing Sherlock, anyway. It always feels like walking on a thin ledge. One step too much to the left and he's too human, one too much to the right he's too crazy... tricky. And well, posting things. The dirtier, the bigger the trauma was.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?: To keep writing! To finish my WIPs (not to empty my WIP folder because I know myself. It's impossible, it only grows bigger. So, to keep it under control) To rewrite the Nano-fic and publish it, to write more femslash and rare pairing and a collection of bearded!smut (yeah, let's give even bearded!Anderson a chance).
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year: Inanimate Doesn’t Mean Heartless
My most popular story of this year: Risk
Most fun story to write: Most of them, I loved writing Not Paranoid, and giggled all the time I was typing Not Exactly Prince Charming
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I don't know how to interpret this question... the one I regretted writing? still on my HD, the one that made me question my sanity? Inanimate Doesn’t Mean Heartless
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Korean Elections, made me love Mycroft even more.
Hardest story to write: Perfect Murder, I cried the entire time, it was so sad, but also cathartic.
Biggest Surprise: Perfectly Timed. I didn't think I had it in me to finish it and actually post it.
The response to my fics (OMG gals, really you are AWESOME) I felt so cheered up, encouraged and kicked in the ass when I most needed it.
The fantastic people I got to know - even if only virtually - and whom I hope to keep in contact with for this 2011.
*sprinkles love on flist*
Anyone wants a glass of Champagne? I still have some left and I feel I have some more celebrating to do.
